The current vision of Alpha Spore is to provide a living and learning space for up to 16 people. A core group or “pod” of 4 members will be sought in stage I. Additional pods(up to 4) will be sought in stages II and III.
When the number of pods reach four, a “polypod” is created. The same positions from each pod will work together as a crew to develop projects and accomplish tasks.

Positions within the pod take advantage of individual abilities and provide a framework for further learning and development. The database maintains information relevant to each position and sector.

Each member chooses the sectors they would like to be involved in.

Below are a few examples of positions that could be created:

“the architect”
This position focuses on earth building as well as general mechanics and engineering. This position empasizes left brain activity.

Areas of specialty:
building with adobe/cob/stone
tool storage and maintenance
electronics
mechanics/engineering
research and development

“the gatherer”
The gatherer is the primary chef and animal tender. He/she is creative and versatile.

Areas of specialty:
food gathering and preparation
food storage
animal(link) husbandry
organization
arts and crafts(basketry, sculpture, painting, etc.)

"the webmaster"
His/Her key responsibilities range from online liason to weather forecasting. Good communication skills and problem solving skills are developed here.

wireless network maintenance
information acquisition
weather observation
monitoring of pod's food, water and energy levels
